Minister OP Rajbhar: There is a stampede-like situation in Maha Kumbh; devotees are appealed to follow the instructions given by the administration
Lucknow: Following a stampede-like scenario at the Maha Kumbh on the festival of ‘Mauni Amavasya’ in the early hours of Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Minister OP Rajbhar urged the followers to ignore rumors and adhere only to the directives of the government.
Rajbhar told the media that the administration is prepared and on high alert.
“All devotees traveling to Mahakumbh are urged to heed the administration’s directions and disregard any rumors. The closest ghats are where the devotees should take a holy plunge. To ensure security, the government and police are on guard. Police officers on duty in the Kumbh region should be obeyed by devotees. “The government is alert and prepared,” he said.
This follows “a stampede-like” incident that occurred in Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh early on Wednesday. However, Akanksha Rana, the special executive officer, said that the wounded were being treated and that the situation was not critical.
The tragedy has been acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is keeping a close eye on the situation. Amit Shah, the home minister, has also promised the center’s complete assistance.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, advised followers of the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj to heed the administration’s directives in a statement published on the social networking site X on Wednesday.
“Dear followers, Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj, Do not try to get towards the Sangam Nose; instead, take your holy wash in the ghat that is closest to you. Please help in upholding order and heed all directives from the government,” Yogi Adityanath stated in his message.
Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, blasted the UP administration, saying that they had to take the occurrence of today as a lesson and make more plans for the devotees’ lodging, food, water, and other necessities.
“It is quite tragic to learn that pilgrims were killed in a mishandled mishap at Maha Kumbh. We urge the government to ensure that those who are critically wounded get prompt medical attention and are transported by air ambulance to the finest hospitals in the area. Plans should be put in place to identify the deceased’s remains, give them to their kin, and transport them to their home. Reuniting people who have been separated should be a top priority. He said on X that “effective use of helicopters should be used to increase surveillance.”
“We also urge the followers to be patient and restrained during this trying period so they may finish their trip in peace. After today’s occurrence, the government has to take note and make more plans for the devotees’ lodging, food, water, and other necessities,” Akhilesh said.
