Father of deceased Indian student request US to bring back his son’s body to India for last rites
Rangareddy: The father of Ravi Teja, an Indian student who was shot dead while studying in the United States, asked the Indian government to bring his son’s remains back to India so that his last ceremonies may be performed.
Originally from Hyderabad, Ravi Teja studied for a master’s degree in science in the United States. In New Haven, Connecticut, he was shot and killed.
Speaking to the media report about his kid, the father broke down and said that his health had also become worse after his son’s passing.
“I beg that the authorities deliver my son’s corpse here; kindly urge the United States to do so. According to the embassy staff, I will know by Friday or Saturday, but for the next five days, I am unsure of my health since my blood pressure is up,” the father, K Chandramouli, told the media report.
He clarified that while they had brought him several presents for his son’s birthday in December, he now finds this surprising news incomprehensible.
“My son began working a temporary job to assist in paying for his tuition while pursuing an MS (Master of Science) in the United States. We sent clothing, candy, and other items from here since he said he would return in March. It is already January and his birthday is in December. I can’t believe they murdered my kid there,” he continued.
He said, “He used to call me even if there was a small incident or he had any trouble,” recalling the day he learned of his family friend’s news. “That day I had some work, and when I came back it was late at 12:30, so I slept.” Later on, a family friend who lives close by advised me to just remain in the home. He informed me that (Ravi) Teja had been shot in the arm when he arrived. I was informed that he was just hurt, but I knew that if that were the case, he would have phoned me, but he didn’t.
Upender Reddy, a family friend, had earlier told the media report that Indian students are afraid to go to the US because of these instances and asked the authorities to return his body.
“We want the Telangana and Central governments to take the appropriate action to return his corpse as soon as possible. In order to prevent such occurrences from happening to our students in the future, we also ask the Union government to take the appropriate action. Students are scared to go overseas after seeing similar tragedies. Our kids are not protected there. The safety of our kids who go there should be a government priority in addition to economic partnerships,” Reddy told the media report.
In addition to expressing their sympathies for Teja’s passing, the Indian embassy in New York stated they are in contact with the deceased’s family and are offering all assistance necessary.
“I was really grieved to hear of Mr. Ravi Teja’s untimely death in the New Haven, Connecticut, shooting incident. The message from the consulate said, “The Consulate General of India in New York is in contact with his family and is offering all assistance possible, including repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”
