Ganges bathing is revered: Punjab Governor on the influx of people at Mahakumbh 2025

Prayagraj: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said after the huge turnout at Mahakumbh 2025 that bathing in the Ganges is regarded as the most holy activity ever since humans first inhabited the planet and it began to flow across the nation.

Gulab Chand Kataria said, “Our soil has a unique quality. Maybe there isn’t a location in the world where millions of people show up without being invited. This is a site of worship, and I think that bathing in the Ganges is regarded as the most sacred and holy activity ever since humans first established on the planet and the river began to flow through our nation.”

According to publicly available statistics, more over 1.78 million pilgrims and one million Kalpavasis attended the Mahakumbh Mela on Friday till 4 p.m.

Data given indicates that during the major celebration on the fifth day till 4 pm, more than 2.78 million persons dipped in the Triveni Sangam.

Up to January 16, almost 70 million individuals had swum in the Triveni Sangam.

According to figures provided today at 2 pm, more than 1 million Kalpavasis and 1 million pilgrims have attended the Mahakumbh.

In the meanwhile, the appropriate authority has issued a prohibitory order until February 28 in order to avoid any potential disturbances of law and order in the district.

Prayagraj, the Additional Commissioner of Police, declared prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023 (also known as the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023) in an official statement today.

The press release stated: “In the coming days, festivals of various religions/sects like Mahakumbh 2025/Amrit Snan, Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Birth Day, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Sant Ravidas Jayanti, Maghi Purnima, Valentine’s Day, Shab-e-Barat, Mahashivratri, other festivals and various competitive examinations will be held.”

The ACP continued by hinting at the forthcoming events: “Given the district’s communal sensitivity and based on information from credible sources, I am convinced that there is a possibility of anti-social elements causing disruption in the district’s law and order.” Peace must be maintained immediately in light of the aforementioned festivities.

January 13 marked the start of Maha Kumbh, which will last until February 26. January 29 (Mauni Amavasya, Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami, Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri) are the following important bathing days.
