TMC leader Kunal Ghosh reiterates party’s demand for death penalty for accused in RG Kar rape-murder case
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh reaffirmed the party’s call for the accused to be executed before the Sealdah Court’s decision in the well-known RG Kar rape-murder case on Saturday.
Ghosh emphasized the swift police response’ and the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) confirmation of the accused’s guilt in an interview with media reports after the judgment.
“We hope the individual who was arrested within 24 hours of the tragedy and who was found guilty by the CBI gets found guilty by the court and given the death sentence. Our Chief Minister has called for the death penalty for this horrible act from day one,” Ghosh said.
Ghosh emphasized the case’s seriousness by calling it a “social crime” that cuts beyond party boundaries. “This is a social problem rather than a political one. “We expect the accused to be given the death penalty for crimes like this,” he said.
Ghosh further accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) of trying to sow disarray at a crucial moment. “CPI-M is raising questions as the trial draws to a close. “Are they in favor of the accused being executed or not?” he asked.
The RG Kar rape-murder case has received a lot of attention, and calls for severe punishment have been fueled by popular indignation. West Bengal was stunned by the tragedy, which has since become a major topic of political and social discussion.
“We will get a good judgement after the court looks at and considers everything,” said the doctor’s father, who also voiced optimism for a fair verdict. The existence of other people (other accused) was confirmed by the DNA results. We are switching courts; one case has been listed and is sub judice before the High Court, while another has appeared before the Supreme Court.”
The family has shown their continued dedication to seeing that justice is done and their willingness to take the matter further if needed. “We want my daughter to get real justice. “Wherever we have to go,” the father said.
Widespread demonstrations were triggered by the case, which includes the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose corpse was discovered in the hospital’s lecture room on August 9. Following the event, Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect and a hospital civic volunteer, was taken into custody in relation to the crime.
