Assam Rifles destroyed large areas of cannabis cultivation spanning 16.2 hectares in the area of ​​Sonamura

Sipahijala: In the broad region of the Boxanagar Forest Range within the Sonamura subdivision, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the police and Tripura Forest Service, have demolished sizable tracts of ganja planting spanning 16.2 hectares.

Assam Rifles said in a news statement on Thursday that 16,500 cannabis plants, worth around Rs 70 lakh, were eradicated as a result of the operation.

The program was a component of a larger effort to eradicate illegal activity and encourage a drug-free atmosphere in the area. According to the Assam Rifles, the combined operation was well appreciated by the local government and demonstrated the value of teamwork in overcoming such obstacles.

According to a news statement, the Assam Rifles seized 10,320 kg of illicit areca nuts valued at about Rs 72.24 lakhs earlier this week in the general region of Zote, Champhai district of Mizoram.

On January 4, a mixed team of Assam Rifles and representatives of the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, conducted the operation.

According to a press release, the Indian Army’s troops, working with the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Manipur Police, conducted another successful series of joint operations on January 5 and retrieved 42 weapons, ammunition, and warlike supplies from hill and valley areas in the districts of Imphal West, Chandel, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, and Churcahandpur in Manipur.

Two weapons were found: one modified and one Carbine Machine Gun (CMG).grenades, ammo, warlike supplies, three single-barrel rifles, two 9mm handguns, and a .303 rifle.

On December 31, 2024, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a combined operation in the general region between Thingphai and TS Laijang village in Chandel district, recovering one M-16, three Lathods, seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition, and warlike goods.
