Flight and train services disrupted due to dense fog in Delhi
New Delhi: Fog and unfavorable weather conditions continued to hinder the flow of passenger trains and airplanes to and from the National Capital on Friday.
Authorities at the Delhi airport warned Friday that planes that were not CAT III certified would be impacted by the current severe fog conditions.
The authorities posted on social network X, saying, “Flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected while landings and takeoffs continue at Delhi airport.”
Authorities at the airport also asked travelers to get in touch with the relevant airlines to find out their most recent flight details.”Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” the message said.
Passengers’ inconveniences were lamented.The message went on to say, “Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”
According to an official statement from Delhi Airport, no cancellations or diversions have been reported as of yet.
Poor visibility and other operational issues caused over 26 trains in the Northern Railway zone to be delayed on Friday morning, according to Indian Railways. From more than an hour to more than eight hours, there are delays.
Bihar Sampark Kranti Express (12565), which is delayed by one hour and sixty-five minutes, and the Farakka Express (15743), which is delayed by one hour and thirty-seven minutes, are two of the most impacted trains. The Gorakh Dham Express (12555) is now one hour and seventy-three minutes behind schedule, while the Mahabodhi Express (12397) is two hours and twenty-eight minutes behind schedule.
There is a 185-minute delay for the Prayagraj Express (12417) and a 111-minute delay for the Shramjeevi Express (12391). There’s also a 69-minute delay with the Padmavat Express (14207).
Rail operations have been hampered by bad weather, mostly heavy fog, over the previous several days.
The national capital was shrouded in a thin layer of fog, which made it difficult to see in certain places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the lowest temperature on Friday was 9.6 degrees Celsius at 5:30 AM.
Delhi’s temperatures have dropped this morning, due in part to dense fog. Safdarjung reported a low temperature of 6.0 degrees Celsius at 8:30 AM IST on Friday, while Palam recorded a somewhat higher minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius.
The national capital’s air quality remained in the “very poor” range. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reports that at 9:30 am today, the AQI was measured at 451 in Delhi. It was 349 yesterday at the same time.
A score of zero to fifty is regarded as “good,” 51 to 100 as “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 as “moderate,” 201 to 300 as “poor,” 301 to 400 as “very poor,” and 401 to 500 as “severe.” Many homeless persons were seen sleeping at night shelters as the hard winter persisted.
