The BJP criticized the Congress administration on Friday for the “never in history” 15% increase in bus fares for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to reverse the “anti-people move.”

The Karnataka government declared a 15% hike in bus prices on Thursday.

“The Karnataka government is a pauper government, just like the Himachal government,” claimed BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition R Ashok in a statement to the media on Saturday. There has never been a 15% increase in bus prices in history. When the Congress was in power, they plucked Karnataka for sixty years.

According to BY Vijayendra, the head of the Karnataka BJP, bus tickets were increased because the Congress administration lacks the funds to fulfill its “poll guarantees.”

“To fulfill its electoral promises, the Congress administration cannot obtain the necessary funds… Karnataka’s bus department and KSRTC are almost completely insolvent and about to shut. This anti-people action is opposed by the BJP. “We want the CM to reverse this price increase decision,” Vijayendra said.

“Since they came into power, this party (Congress) has done nothing but raise prices and corruption,” said BJP MLC CT Ravi, who also criticized the Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government for the 15% increase in KSRTC bus fares.

The Karnataka Congress administration’s plan to raise bus rates by 15% was met with severe disapproval earlier Friday by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who said that the government had made price hikes “routine” and burdened the people.

“Since coming to power, this government has made it a routine to burden the public, and the people are forced to bear it,” Kumaraswamy said.

The Karnataka administration, according to BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala, chose to raise bus prices since the state treasury and coffers are empty as a result of frauds like the MUDA and false promises.

“The Karnataka treasury is empty, which is why this is being done. The Karnataka Congress plans to borrow Rs 48,000 crore over the course of the next three months. What if this were the case? They have no money left over for growth since all was lost to frauds like the Valmiki scam, the MUDA scam, or false pledges. As a result, the economy has totally collapsed, and they must either borrow money or raise taxes,” he said.
